Rethinking FME as Workspaces and Engines: Supported by Form and Flow
Viewing FME as Workspaces and Engines has completely changed our perspective of FME – allowing us to embrace the platform’s increased capabilities. Essentially, it’s a simplified view where Workspaces define what data transformation will happen, while Engines execute this transformation, delivering the results anywhere—on-premises, in the cloud, or across hybrid environments. By reframing FME around Workspaces and Engines, we focus on the platform’s core functionality: data transformation that can happen anywhere.
To support these core functions, Safe Software has vastly increased the capabilities of FME Form and FME Flow.
FME Form: Evolved for seamless Workspace creation
Historically, FME desktop tools were limited to specific versions with restricted functionality, i.e. from FME Base, FME Professional, FME Database, all the way up to FME Smallworld.
Now, the various desktop platforms have evolved into a singular and comprehensive Workspace authoring solution – FME Form.

FME Flow: The Engine orchestration hub
FME Server was a monolithic tool that required additional perpetual licences to expand.
It has now been reimagined as FME Flow, the central hub for managing Engines and automations. It now allows users to control where and how Engines operate from a single central location. Plus, it now supports a new architecture of mixed perpetual, subscription, and pay-as-you-go licensing options.

Data transformation anywhere: Workspaces, Engines, Flow, and Form in action
With these evolved versions of FME Form and FME Flow, supporting Workspaces and Engines, we have a unified ecosystem that makes data transformation possible anywhere.
Whether you’re integrating data from a local server, a cloud application, or a hybrid system, FME can now adapt to your needs, delivering results efficiently and effectively.
