The Desk Owners’ Creed
Back in World War II, Major General William H. Rupertus wrote The Rifleman’s Creed to help his men understand the importance of their rifles.
At miso, after watching Full Metal Jacket a few too many times, we’ve come up with our own version. We call it The Desk Owners’ Creed.
This is my desk. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
It is my space. My home at work. I will care for it as I care for my home.
Without me, my desk is soulless. Without my desk, I am homeless.
I will mark it as my own. I will shape it until it feels like mine.
My team will know this is not just any desk. This one belongs to me.
We’re not against flexibility, and we are not looking to tie anyone down, but we believe there’s real value in having your own space. A place where you can think clearly, focus properly, and leave things at the end of the day.
That’s why everyone at miso has their own proper desk. And not just any desk! The tabletops were hand made in Worcester from locally sourced wood. The table legs are reclaimed scaffolding. As a team, we carried these up three flights of stairs, built them, and painted them in any way we liked.
That bit of ownership makes a real difference.
They’re solid, simple, and absolutely ours. Our home at work.
